April walking, nature and village life in the Kingdom of Sikkim

April 2026 Spring Walking Trip
Our spring walking trip takes place at one of the most beautiful times of year in the Lower Himalayas. Ten days are spent in the Kingdom of Sikkim, known for its traditional way of life, peaceful landscapes and strong connection to nature. This journey is ideal for those who enjoy walking, culture and the authentic rhythm of village life.
WHAT MAKES THIS TRIP SPECIAL
• Spring blossoms, clear mountain light and mild weather
• Walking most days, with flexible options from one to four hours
• Time in villages and mountain lodges, close to daily Sikkimese life
• Visits to monasteries, forests, lakes and local farms
• A slower pace suited to walkers of varied levels
• A blend of nature, landscape, culture and community
• Fourteen days to fully immerse in a carefully curated journey

THE CURATION AND AUTHENTICITY OF THESE JOURNEYS
What makes these journeys particularly special is the way they are shaped by long-standing local relationships. This is not a mainstream tour and it is not designed around busy sightseeing or tourist routes. Every walk, village stay and shared meal has been chosen with care, often in places that most travellers would never find without local guidance. Because Jo and Bhusan know the region deeply, the trip unfolds in an organic, unhurried way.
You meet real people, spend time in family homes and experience the rhythm of daily life in Sikkim. Many of the moments guests talk about afterwards are the simple ones, such as a quiet path through a forest, a shared cup of tea in a village kitchen, or a spontaneous conversation with someone who welcomes you in. It is this sense of authenticity, connection and specialist curation that sets the April trip apart.
THE JOURNEY
We begin in the hill town of Kalimpong before travelling into Sikkim for a week of panoramic walks and village stays. Each day brings a mix of scenery, culture and connection, guided by Jo and Bhusan who share stories of the region’s history and communities.
There is time to explore monasteries, forest trails and peaceful viewpoints, as well as opportunities to enjoy simple, home-cooked meals in quiet village settings. After our time in Sikkim, we travel to Darjeeling where you can explore markets, cafes and local heritage sites. You may wish to extend your stay to visit the Himalayan zoo, the Tibetan Refugee Centre or the Mountaineering Institute.

YOUR GUIDES

Jo Cresswell
I’ve been leading walking, skiing and cycling tours since the 1980s across Europe and Australia, and am delighted to now offer these Himalayan journeys. I’m a musician on concertina and piano, a meditator and yogi, a qualified cross-country ski instructor, and have spent many years managing folk festivals and concert tours.
Bhusan Chettri
Bhusan has over 25 years of experience as a high-altitude trekking and tour guide throughout Nepal, Northern India and Sikkim. He brings vast knowledge, calm leadership, and a wonderful sense of humour to our trips.

(And yes, he’s funny, intelligent, and a total pain in the arse, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!)
