Himalayan Journeys with Jo

Walks, culture, music and connection in the Lower Himalayas

Welcome to my Himalayan journeys, a series of small-group trips through the forests, villages and hill towns of the Lower Himalayas. These journeys bring together walking, culture, local music and genuine connection with the people who call this region home.

Across fourteen days you will stay in character-filled hotels and homestays, explore tea estates and monasteries, wander through peaceful forests and experience a way of life shaped by nature, community and long-standing traditions.

Each trip has its own focus. Whether you enjoy walking, yoga, singing or simply being immersed in mountain landscapes, there is a journey for you.

UPCOMING TRIPS

  • April 2026 – Spring Walking and Culture Trip

  • November 2026 – Walking with Singing option

JO’S FAMILY STORY

My grandfather was an Engineer and General Manager on the Darjeeling Himalaya Railway that winds from the plains of India into the tea-growing hills of Darjeeling. Throughout these journeys we meet people whose families have been part of the railway’s story, and their insights offer a warm and personal understanding of the region. This connection has been part of my family for generations and forms the heart of these Himalayan experiences.

WHAT MAKES THESE JOURNEYS SPECIAL

These trips are shaped by long-standing relationships with local guides, families and communities. They are not designed around busy sightseeing or commercial routes. Every walk, stay and encounter has been chosen with intention. This creates an experience that is peaceful, deeply authentic and paced to the requirements of the group. You meet people in their own environments, enjoy simple moments of welcome and conversation, and experience the mountains through the eyes of those who live there.

WHAT THESE JOURNEYS OFFER

• Small, friendly groups
• Walks of one to four hours, with flexible options
• Time in villages, forests and mountain landscapes
• Visits to monasteries, markets and heritage sites
• Evenings of music, conversation and delicious local food
• Rail journeys included on selected trips

YOUR GUIDES

Jo Cresswell
I’ve been leading walking, skiing and cycling tours since the 1980s across Europe and Australia, and am delighted to now offer these Himalayan journeys. I’m a musician on concertina and piano, a meditator and yogi, a qualified cross-country ski instructor, and have spent many years managing folk festivals and concert tours.

Bhusan Chettri
Bhusan has over 25 years of experience as a high-altitude trekking and tour guide throughout Nepal, Northern India and Sikkim. He brings vast knowledge, calm leadership, and a wonderful sense of humour to our trips.

(And yes, he’s funny, intelligent, and a total pain in the arse, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!)
